Environmental adventures with Camp Kernow at its pioneering off-grid UK summer camp

China Uk Environmental Adventure.png

Come together with young people from across China for an exciting six-day environmental adventure and cultural exchange at Camp Kernow’s off-grid camp in the heart of Cornwall.

The China-UK camps aim to foster environmental awareness across borders, stimulate discussion and debate around issues of sustainability and empower participants to make a positive contribution to a more sustainable future.

The camps are run in partnership with Gotoco, an organisation dedicated to promoting cultural exchange opportunities between young people in China and the UK.

Climate change does not respect border; it does not respect who you are - rich and poor, small and big. Therefore, this is what we call ‘global challenges’, which require global solidarity.

exchange...

In addition to an exchange of environmental ideas and actions there are opportunities to experience the language, food and culture of fellow participants from China. The camps are a great introduction to the language of Mandarin which is featuring in the curriculum of more and more schools across the UK. Last year's inaugural camp also saw UK participants learn how to make delicious Chinese dumplings from scratch alongside other traditional Chinese dishes.

experience...

During their stay participants take part in a packed programme of outdoor activities and workshops including wild food foraging, kayaking, forging with a Blacksmith, stone carving, archery, animal tracking, falconry and technical tree climbing.

They learn what it takes to live off-grid with sustainable systems such as reed-beds, composting toilets and solar energy and work together as a community to grow, harvest and prepare food.
